Recap & Awards - 1st Annual (1999)
Recap
On Saturday, July 31, 1999 over 116 friends and family members participated in the inaugural Mark A. Monaco Memorial Golf Tournament at the Niagara County Golf Course. Later that afternoon, 30 non-golfers joined those who were out on the greens for a cookout, putting green contest, raffles and prizes. In addition to family; friends, Mark's childhood pals, fellow gymnastics' team members, ATO fraternity brothers and St. Lawrence Alumni joined together to raise money for the Mark A. Monaco Memorial Scholarship Fund.
We are proud to announce that as a result of everyone's generosity, over $4,100.00 was raised for the Mark A. Monaco Memorial Fund. Some of these contributions have already provided a $500.00 scholarship award to Raymond Sroka and Krista Wierzbicki, a Maryvale High School senior, majoring in business. There have also been ongoing efforts to have an interview room established, dedicated in Mark's memory, in the proposed new student union center on the St. Lawrence University Campus in Canton, New York.
Even though the weather did not fully cooperate on the day of the inaugural tournament, it was still a great showing by everyone and a wonderful tribute to Mark. Mark's 1st Annual Memorial Golf Tournament was a success because of all the support that it received. Thank you to everyone who participated: golfers, guests, donors, prize sponsors, tournament sponsors, the team at Niagara County Golf Course and Cafe on the Green staff. Your efforts were monumental and appreciated. We would also like to remember Bob Anderson, late owner of Cafe on the Green, who passed away in May 2000.
